My Musical Experience
Andrew Clement is currently the principal cellist with the Salt Lake Symphony. He has played with the Salt Lake Symphony since 2015.
Andrew most recently studied with Julie Bevan at Brigham Young University from 2003 to 2009, where he earned his Bachelors in Music with an emphasis in Cello Performance.
Andrew also studied with Andrew Snow (Arlington Heights, Illinois) and with Hans Jorgen Jensen (Northwestern University Professor of Violoncello) during his high school days. He has also played for masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Bernard Greenhouse (Beaux Arts Trio), Daniel Muller-Schott, Pegsoon Whang (Utah Symphony), Guarneri String Quartet, and the Cavani String Quartet.
Andrew has performed multiple times with orchestra. His first was a performance of the famed Elgar Cello Concerto in 2003. As a freshman at Brigham Young University in 2004, he was selected as one of seven students in the School of Music to perform the Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra in Evening of Concertos. At BYU, Andrew gave recitals as a soloist performing great works such as Variations of a Rococo Theme by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the 'Arpeggione' Sonata by Franz Schubert. He also gave recitals with the BYU Honors String Quartet, with whom he had a tenure during the 2007-08 season.
While at Brigham Young University, Andrew played with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra and the BYU Chamber Orchestra, both with whom he toured and concertized. In 2004, Andrew went on tour with the BYU Chamber Orchestra, performing in many countries such as Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Greece. With the same orchestra in 2008, he toured the New England States performing in venues such as the historic Faneuil Hall in Boston and the world renowned Carnegie Hall. Andrew also played with the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he was selected to be the principal cellist for a time.
While in high school, Andrew participated in the Midwest Young Artists (MYA), one of the premier youth orchestras in the Chicago area. He was selected as the principal cellist during the 2002-03 season.
In state-wide competitions here in Utah, Andrew was chosen as the Winner of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Utah Solo Competition in both the Junior Division (2004) and the Senior Division (2008).
